Adjustment is seemingly a mechanic by which the Labyrinth improves unqualified people whose Potentials are all below the minimum requirements for tier 1.

Special abilities

Professionals with Adjustment ("Adapted Professionals") seem to acquire a number of special abilities not available to other Professionals.

For a while, it was assumed that those abilities were derived from the acquisition of the Adjustment "profession" itself, but more recently, a new theory has emerged that links each special ability with a given Milestone. Leading Labyrinth scholar, Charles Babbage has tentatively associated abilities with Milestones. Having Professionals with varying Milestone levels will allow one to compare abilities and confirm them.

Milestones

It provides Milestones, similar to a Profession, without being one itself. Adjustment Milestones do not appear to provide skill ranks. Each new Milestone is a painful process, as the Professional is forcefully modified without the benefit of a Profession.

Milestone Effects Abilities
Adjustment I +1 all Potentials, 5% faster leveling Gain one gear item for every creature killed until they have obtained one for every possible slot (8)
Adjustment II +3 all Potentials, 10% faster leveling Immediately learn any skill that matches their current Profession skill sphere if they equip a piece of gear with it[1]
Adjustment III +6 all Potentials, 15% faster leveling Affect inactive Gates[2]
Adjustment IV +10 all Potentials, 20% faster leveling See Gate descriptors[3]
Adjustment V +15 all Potentials, 25% faster leveling Share Gate descriptors with other Professionals[4]
Adjustment VI +21 all Potentials, 30% faster leveling See Treasure descriptors[5]
Adjustment VII +28 all Potentials, 35% faster leveling* ?

(*) Hypothesis, unconfirmed
