The Earth-441 divergence opens on September 3rd, 1540, 73 years ago LT (Labyrinth time).

The Gates opened up in a relatively tumultuous time. Ethiopia was waging a war against the Adal Sultanate and its King had just died in battle. The appearance of a Gate in the sacred site of Lalibela resulted in a surge of fervor, prompting backlash against the Muslim invaders.

While the Gate of Bihar was held temporarily by the Sur Sultanate, that dynasty was soon to be cast down by the nascent Mughal Empire (nearly 12 years in advance to True History). Squeezed between a surging central Ethiopian Empire, a dominant Holy Roman Empire centered around the Spanish peninsula (and its Catalan Gate), the Ottomans and their allies have been slowly ground to largely irrelevance.
