Divergence

Divergence is the name colloquially given by Labyrinth-based civilizations for each and every Earth accessible through Great Gates. The term refers from the fact that each Earth follows the chart of a unique, True History, up to the opening of the Gates, and events quickly start to differ afterward.

Notably, almost every individual conceived and born a year or more after the Gate opening seem to be unique and specific to that divergence. Even in the cases where they are born closely in time, they seem no more identical than fraternal twins would be.

All divergences are designated after their Gate numbers, since any individual with Gate Mastery rank 2 has no problem establishing the Labyrinth identifier.

Philosophers debate on whether True History is singular, a unique Earth from which each divergence is created as Great Gates open, or a set of separate, but seemingly identical Earths in parallel course until the Gates appearance introduces changes. This debate does not seem likely to be settled anytime soon.

There appear to be no visible correlation between the date at which the Labyrinth opens on True History, and how long ago the Gate opened.
